News Story

The IBA welcomes today’s FDIC proposal on parity for state-chartered banks, which advances an important principle we have long advocated: state banks should not face a competitive or regulatory disadvantage relative to their nationally chartered peers. The proposal would strengthen our nation’s dual banking system by ensuring state banks can compete nationally to best serve their customers and their communities while preserving the vital role of state charters and state supervision.

We also welcome the FDIC’s proposal to modernize its approach to bank mergers and account for competition from tax-exempt credit unions and other nonbank providers. The Illinois Bankers Association looks forward to reviewing both proposals and sharing the Illinois banking industry’s perspective through the comment process.
